昨日は、お世話になっていた上司の送別会だった。場所は上司によく連れて行ってもらっていた和食のお店。
振り返ってみれば、この上司の下についてから、決して仕事は楽じゃなかった。むしろ、毎日が戦争でいつ怒鳴られるか最初はビクビクしながらの仕事。そんな私を気遣ってか、ミーティング等で上司から常に意見を求められるようになった。元々積極的な性格ではなかったが、意見を言うために普段の仕事の意味や姿勢について改めてよく考えるようになった。少しずつだが、私の意見が取り入れられるようになり、この頃から同僚や他の上司からの見方が変わってきたように思う。
その後も、上司は変わらず私には厳しく接していたが、ある時の飲みの帰りにかけてくれた言葉を聞いてから、ビクビクしながら上司の顔を見て仕事するのを辞めた。それは、「お前には期待している」という一言。何の変哲のない言葉だが、普段の関係性からは考えられない言葉だった。あれから数年経ち、そんな上司も定年に。この数年間、あなたの部下として働けてよかった。お疲れ様でした。
